Strawberries

Strawberry season is here - and it should last for about another 3 more weeks. I went strawberry picking to Twinkleberry Farms and took along my Canon G7 for the ride.
I took a bunch of shots, but this pic reminds me of one of those could-be advertising shots that would read "From our fields to your table - support your local farmer" or "Fresh Ontario Produce".... well you get the idea...

Rusty's Reach Playground at East Lynn Park
Four-year-old Joey tests the new swing set at Rusty's Reach playground. The E.L.F. (East Lynn Park Foundation) was able to secure $200,000 for the rejuvenation of East Lynn Park. The money helped purchase a newly redesigned playground, which was named Rusty's Reach, after a Toronto Parks and Rec worker, Rusty Warkman, who diligently tended to the park until his retirement in December 2006.

Golf Scholarship
OSHAWA - Honour roll student Addi has just completed her 2nd year at South Carolina State University where she doing a major in Physical Education and minor in Biology. This past year she was awarded with a full golf scholarship at S.C.U., which she will receive for the remainder of her studies at the University.

Home Invasion
WHITBY - A police officer opens a windows to let a man, woman and dog inside. Durham Region Police blocked off a portion of Brock St. North in Whitby, after receiving a call for an attempted armed home invasion around 5pm. A man, woman and dog, believed to be the residents of the townhouse fled to the ledge of the home waiting for SWAT to clear the unit. Luckily, they were unharmed in the incident and were led to safety by the officers. Police are looking for two suspects who are believed to be armed and dangerous. May 22, 2007

OSHAWA - Nursing Professors Leslie Graham and Debbie Morrison stand back while Mr. Jones, a high-fidelity simulator gets a healthy dose of electricity from a defibrillator in the healthcare lab at the college. Durham College has received $1 million from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to create a critical care nursing, e-learning program for the province. This cutting edge program will train health-care professionals in a simulated life-like environment, based on wide variety of scenarios that will make the students more comfortable, capable and competant in dealing with medical situations in the real world. Iron Talon II

The 32nd Canadian Army Brigade rehearsed war fighting and stability tasks at the Land Force Central Area Training Centre in Meaford, Ontario. The exercises code-named Iron Talon II were designed to train army reserves in full-spectrum operations, such as humanitarian aid, stability operations and focused warfare exercises. 790 reservists, with additional full time military took part in scenario based exercises which were adapted from the various experiences of troops who had recently returned from serving in Afghanistan. Senior journalism students were also embedded with the units participating in the exercises, to mimic the reality of war, as media presence on the battlefront has become the norm. This addition of journalists helps the army get accustomed to having them around on the front lines, as well as helping to train the journalism students who may become future Canadian foreign correspondents.
I spent the day with the Queens Own Rifles based out the Dalton Armoury in Scarborough and The 32 Combat Engineers Regiment based out of Denison Armoury at Downsview Park in Toronto. The Q.O.R. executed a number of strategic infantry based scenarios, while the 32 C.E.R. were engaged in an exercise which was built around a scenario of "Destroying Remnants of War".
It was pretty damn cool watching the 32 C.E.R. set off various 155mm and 76mm live artillery shells with C4.
