Healthy Athletes Expo
OSHAWA - Special Olympics Ontario hosted their first Healthy Athletes Expo for Special Olympians with intellectual and developmental disabilities at Durham College UOIT, Oshawa campus. Over 100 professionals from across Ontario volunteered their time to help with the Expo, providing more than 1,000 athletes with access to health care services. Sylvian Larviere came all the way from Sudbury for the expo, where he got an eye exam and got fitted for new glasses. Sylvian, a Special Olympian will be competing in 5-pin bowling at the Special Olympics later on this month.

Special Olympics Torch
Whitby RBC Branch Manager, and Canadian National Womens Hockey team member, and olympic gold medal winner, Gillian Apps light the RBC Torch from the Special Olympics Torch being held by Mark and Stephanie Barrett as it passed through Whitby, signifying the start of the RBC Special Olympics Torch Relay and Twoonies for Torches. The RBC Special Olympics Torch Relay will bring the torch to branches in Durham throughout the month of May to raise awareness of the upcoming Special Olympic Games. Branches will also begin selling paper torches for $2 which will be displayed in each branch as part of Twoonies for Torches. All proceeds collected in May will be given to Special Olympics Ontario.
