It was finger numbing cold that day. Really windy, and not a lot of snow. Actually the snow was frozen in a thin layer barely covering the grass, yet kids were climbing up and sliding down on a variety of sleds. I thought this kid was brave, using only a crazy carpet sliding down a not-so-soft hill.

Scarborough Green-space Creation Issue February 15, 2007
Scarborough resident Yoram Shelley, has been asking the city to create a green-space in what used to be a wood lot that has been deteriorating and becoming an eye sore. Instead of planting trees and cleaning up the lot, the city bulldozed through the vegetation, and damaged the remaining trees with their equipment. Yoram's FLICKR site

Weather shot in Cobourg February 14, 2007
A drive that usually takes me 30-45min when I go to work in Cobourg, took over two hours a few days ago, thanks to blowing snow and snowplows on the 401. This guy in the photo was covered in snow from clearing his driveway. I was compelled to snap a pic.
Random hockey pic. February 09, 2007
Over 1000 hockey players from 54 houseleague teams, in 7 age groups participated in the annual Agincourt Junior Canadians Houseleague Hockey Tournament at Mid-Scarborough Arena over the weekend.
I had to take and post this photograph, because I thought it was precious. The kid actually had his glasses taped to his face. Now that's hardcore.

M&C Dry Goods and Draperies Store Closing February 05, 2007
OSHAWA - Sixty-two-year-old Gill Evenstein will be closing his store, M&C Dry Goods and Draperies this May. He is forced to shut down, as the business can't compete with big box stores, and corporate chain prices. The store, which his father started 65 years ago, at the same location in downtown Oshawa, has lost over 50% of its sales in the past 3 years, and is no longer profitable. According to Evenstein, majority of customers are no longer looking at the fine quality of hand-made products, instead price is the determining factor.
New Blogger LABELS
- trying to update all my posts with the new Blogger 'keyword' Labels. Should be done later tonight when I get back from work - now if only I could organize my whole photo archive like that... one day... one day... I guess not a question of if.. but when.
Oshawa Generals vs Brampton Battalion February 02, 2007
It was my first time shooting hockey at the new GM Centre in Oshawa. Needless to say, it's significantly better and brighter than the old building. There are holes in the glass for shooting, and there's access to the rafters above. I wish I could have stayed for the whole game, never the less I can't wait to shoot their again.
Only two photos worth mentioning here, the last one was the 'Huck a Puck' contest during second intermission, where over 500 pucks were tossed from the stands to see who could get closest to center ice. The winner won a whole bunch of money.
The second last photo is of OHL, January player of the month, Oshawa Generals - John Tavares, a second before he scored a goal in the second period, giving him his 100th point of the season. The goal also ended up being the winner in a 5-4 victory over the Battalion.
As of today (Feb. 12) Tavares is leading the OHL with 55 goals scored and is third overall with 104 points. At 16-years-old... that's pretty impressive.

The Tragically Hip - Live World Container Tour 2007 January 31, 2007
This assignment was very cool. Got to shoot The Hip @ the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Although we the paparazzi only got to shoot three songs, and use no flash, it was still pretty neat having frontman Gord Downie performing a foot or two away from us.
Accident in Port Hope January 27, 2007
Some photos I took on my way back from work. Although not advised, I ran across the highway (401) to take these pictures. I guess you can say it was worth it, as I made front page on www.thestar.com and got A4 in the Sunday edition of the paper.
Although the accident was tragic, it could have been much worse if the truck was moving at the time of the accident. The Mazda was driving in the left lane, hit the centre median, lost control and crossed three lanes of traffic and landed right underneath a parked truck. The 401 was closed for over an hour.
